Miss Birtch story

A rocky hill with trees toward on it in an orderly bunch shining on to the water. The on bray sky fading into the water. All the ships heading out to sea to go sail across the still waters. Jemma is sitting with her dog on a walk sipping her water and enjoying the bleming sun.

Jemma is a very active and athletic person. she likes to go on hacks with her dog Cassie. Cassie is a very curious dog. As they are going on a port hill walk she sees all the ships and wonders what it would be like to go and see them upright in person.

Jemma's dog got off the lead she smelt something salty. She followed her nose and did not listen to Jemma as she called out her name. Jemma chasted after Cassie up and down hills and Jemma stopped. She could not find Cassie anywhere.

Jemma has a secret whistle to call Cassie if Jemma is in trouble when Jemma whistles she comes running over to Jemma. As Jemma whistled Cassie sprinted over to her and Jemma yells good girl. She got her back on the lead and did not recognise where she was. She started to try and walk home but got herself even more lost. She finally found her way home happy and safe.

What i would want to learn at school

So today Miss Birtch gave us a task to write a blog post about what we would want to do at school that we do not have.

I choose horse riding as they don't have it at many schools. I think if some people start getting into horse riding it could give you a great career. You could go to the Olympics for horse riding as it is a sport.

You can get an average of $500-$700 dollars a week.

Horse Riding

So today miss Birtch asked us to write a blog post we could choose out of 6 things so I choose "what do you do to keep fit and healthy."

As my sport, I choose horse riding. I choose horse riding as I am an equestrian an equestrian is someone who rides horses as a sport and that is their passion. When you ride you would probably have a favourite discipline like xc, show jumping, dressage, polo etc. My favourite discipline is xc and show jumping as you learn more than you do in others. In all horse riding sports, you can compete and win rosettes and ribbons.

These are rosettes and ribbons. You win these at competitions. As I don't have my own horse yet I don't really compete but in my riding school, I go to we do indoor competitions that I go to. I now have one 1st place rosette one 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and two 6th place ribbons.

Working as a Team

Level 1
Below the Level
Level 2
Working Towards the Level
Level 3
Working at the Level
Level 4
Exceeding the Level
I have a negative influence on the team.
The teacher has reminded me to get involved.
I get into arguments and sometimes use nasty words.
I sometimes cheat.
Cylinder
I sometimes make a contribution to the team goal.
I sometimes need the teacher or my teammates to remind me to join in or try harder.
I try to use positive words and actions to encourage my team, but I find it hard.
I always make a contribution to the team goal.
I include myself in the team activity, and I include others.
I sometimes use positive words and actions to encourage my team.
I am a leader in making a contribution to the team goal.
I make sure I include everyone in what’s going on.
I am always encouraging, and my positive words and actions lift my team’s performance.

Blog Reflection

The team game we played was:  Ki-O-Rahi

For this activity, I rate myself (circle one) 1 2 3 4

I gave myself this rating because (describe something that happened that supports the rating you gave yourself).  I gave myself this rating because the teacher had to remind me a little to join in

What was something that was challenging about today’s activity? (in relation to teamwork)

It was challenging being in the middle and protecting the Cylinder in the middle when people kept on hitting you with the ball.

How did I overcome this challenge?

I started protecting myself like putting my hands out.

song/music

In music, we had to make a song

To my ex-best friend

You have chosen the wrong things in life
But I can't help you
I have tried so hard to help you go down the right paths
But you didn't listen to me
I have stopped you from cutting
But I can't help you now
I have to go my own way now

So to my ex-best friend
You always knew me right
Through hard and low times
I knew I could trust you
But then you left me

All the bad choices you have made
Lead you down this path
Getting court up in
Drugs alcohol smoking lead you here
You may not think it has to lead you
Here but it has and I'm sorry
But it has lead to losing me

So to my ex-best friend
You always knew me right
Through hard and low times
I knew I could trust you
But then you left me

You were changing so much you have hurt
Me in many ways
Now the time has come to say
My last words to you

Goodbye best friend

singing

Today in period 2 we did C.I.P.
We started to weed and move some wood.
some of the wood was rotten and falling apart.
When we were weeding there was stinging needle. a stinging needle is a type of plant that stings you and you can get really itchy.

Today In period 3 we had singing.
The first song we sang was tip of my tongue for our warm-up song. We sang home again 2 times. Then big Aroha, whaling, green light and light surrounding you.

The visit of Ella West

Ella West visit

So yesterday Ella West came to our school. In our class we
Have a ‘Night Vision’ group for reading and Ella West wrote ‘Night Vision’. They had to do a blog post about the book ‘Night Vision’. The blog post caught her attention and she was already coming down to Christchurch for family things and so she decided to come and visit us.

The day came where Ella West came to our school. We had a little meet with all the ⅞ classes then ⅞ Al went to the learning commons. We asked some questions.
She is a journalist for the southland times forming magazines. She tries aiming for 1000 words a day. She is currently writing a new book called ‘Sound of My Heart’ and it is about a 16-year-old girl running a half marathon and trying to compete against older people.

‘Night Vision’ has won 2 awards.
Her first book was thieves in 2006. In ‘Night Vision’ there is this girl that has a disorder where if she goes in the sun her skin burns and swells up based that on a true part in life because some kids are not too lucky and actually has that disorder where they can't go in the sun. So they don't go to school and cant play netball basketball etc.

singing week 6

In singing today we were practising for a big Aroha concert. We first sang tip of my tongue we didn't sing that the best but that was ok, there were only 4 or 5 people singing. We sang oh my my lots more people sang it and I would say it was an 8/10 because some people were out of sink but we will hopefully get better at that and getting in the sink and louder than we are now before the concert.  big aroha concert

in the big Aroha concert, we have to sing bad hair day, big Aroha, don't dream it's over, green light, home again, light surrounding you, nature, oh my my, shark attack, stand up, tarakihi, tip of my tongue, wake up, whaling, we know the way and why does love do this to me

Maori

How to make a hangi,
A hangi is a traditional Maori method of cooking food underground using hot stones, and it is commonly practised throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. The food has warm, earthy tones, and is a firm favourite for social gatherings throughout New Zealand. A hangi involves setting up the pit, heating the stones, preparing the food, and then placing the food into the pit to cook.
Gather volcanic stones for the hangi. A hangi for 25 people will require enough volcanic stones to fill a 1 m  in diameter hole, around 0.5 m  deep. Non-volcanic stones will crack and explode when heated, which can be dangerous. Collect pieces of hardwood for the hangi. Wood for a hangi must be untreated, and you will need 45 pieces that are 1 m long and 5-8 cm wide. A slow-burning wood such as mānuka or macrocarpa works well. Get 3 food baskets. Food baskets for hangi are usually wire trays with sides, but they can be made out of a variety of different materials. Baskets that are made from small chicken mesh or welded perforated steel containers are common.
Dig the hole slightly bigger than the stacked food baskets. 200-300mm deeper and 200mm wider and longer than the baskets work well. The hole will need to be slightly larger than the food baskets when they are stacked so that there is enough room for sacks to be placed on the sides which will protect the food from the embers and dirt.

Pile the wood and volcanic stones on the ground to make a fire stack. There is no particular order to stack the wood and stones, and all that matters is that there is enough room beneath the stack to start a fire and that the stones are evenly distributed throughout the stack. The fire stack should be located next to the pit so that you can easily transfer the hot stones.
Light the wood in the fire stack in 3-4 places. Light a match and set alight 3-4 corners of the fire stack. If the wood doesn't show flames immediately, blow gently on the smouldering area to help it along.

C.I.P week 5

C.I.P week 5 what we did today in C.I.P

Today in C.I.P I helped out with the outside classroom, we sorted out the tables, chairs, metal thing and plastic things. We had to take apart the tables and chairs. We swept the dirt, leaves and dust.

In the planting group, we turned over lots of dirt we turned over the dirt to break up the crusty soil and creates the air in the soil. we planted cauliflower, beetroot, broccoli and cabbage.

Also in the planting group, we raked the soil so it is easier to plant. we planted three plants in a row for the cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli and four in a row for the beetroot.

In the planting group, we made a mini-greenhouse over the plants to protect them.

What we did in C.I.P

Today at the start of cip, we headed to the changing rooms and changed into our P.E gear. Started walking down to the garden and sorted what we were doing Mya, Tehya, Jessie, Kody and I were started cutting trees and opening up the middle of the plant to get sunlight into the plant so it can grow properly. We had 3 dwords that we needed to help us and there were dead diseased damaged deranged. We cut off the dead parts of the trees the deceased parts as well, you had to cut off the branches that were facing down and growing the wrong way.
The teacher that was helping us and giving us tips was Mark. There were people in period 3 that carried on doing the outside classroom, cutting the trees, planting trees and cleaning out the greenhouse.
